Obesity is often fuelled by snacking on unhealthy foods such
as chips, chocolate and soft drinks from the office vending machine.
But one Gold Coast entrepreneur believes he has the answer-
pop a coin into one of his
vending machines and out pops a healthy snack.
Whole meal Vending Managing Director Paul Davies says when it
comes to eating away from home it’s difficult to stick to a healthy diet.
“But I believe whether it is the office, school or business,
there is a duty of care,” he said.
”Offering healthy choices has now become a moral issue as
opposed to a financial one. These
Whole meal Vending machines offer ready-to-eat
meals low in fat and preservatives instead of processed, bad snacks.
The meals include pasta, curry, beans, ready-to-eat tuna and
vegetables.
“We also provide a microwave kitchen set-up alongside the
vending machine to heat the meals,” Mr. Davies said.
He said improvements in vacuum sealing foods had enabled the
idea to flourish.
The
Whole meal Vending goods include a traffic light
labelling system that allows customers to determine how much fat and salt is in
each product and whether they are gluten-free or vegetarian.
Mr. Davies now has 100
vending machines in hospitals,
schools and offices around the country, including Logan Hospital and Robina
High School in Queensland.
